Singer-turned politician Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine put up a spirited performance at his One Love Beach in Busabala on Saturday, in his much anticipated Kyarenga concert.
The highly publicized concert went on amidst a heavy police presence. Despite police’s earlier warnings that the concert had to be violence and politics-free, several prominent opposition figures showed up for the sold out music fiesta.
A rising and indefatigable critic of President Yoweri Museveni, Bobi Wine gave his fans and supporters a performance to remember, clad in his eternally bold red attire.
“I take pride that my supporters have travelled miles to come to my event amidst fear of arrest or intimidation by the security,” Wine said during a stage break. He also took the opportunity to aim a dig at the government and called for regime change; “With such support it will be foolish of government and the leadership not to listen to the voices calling for change of leadership.”
At the concert, eight musicians attending announced they would run in upcoming parliamentary elections in 2021.
The venue was filled to capacity as Uganda’s top musicians including King Saha and Eddy Kenzo, the “Mbakooye hitmaker’ graced the show.
