Arua Municipality Member of Parliament Hon Ibrahim Abiriga was shot dead by unknown gunmen that found him driving near his home in Matugga, Wakiso District and left him bleeding in cold blood.
Ibrahim Abiriga was reportedly shot by two people who were riding on a boda boda at about 6:30 pm on Friday as he was traveling in his famous yellow Volkswagen car with his bodyguard and a third person who were also shot dead.
He was also among the initiators of the move to amend the constitution to remove article 102b so as to have the 75 year upper age limit for the president removed and was later on interrupted by a court case in which he was accused of urinating In public near the ministry of finance head offices in Kampala.
In Matugga, police and other security operative have cordoned off the crime scene to ensure that it’s not tampered with.
President Museveni has labeled the killing of Arua Municipality Member of Parliament a senseless killing, directing that the urban criminality must stop.
Museveni said. “I have received news about the senseless killing of Arua Municipality MP, Hon Ibrahim Abiriga, and his bodyguard on the outskirts of Kampala this evening, I have tasked security agencies to expeditiously find these killers and the nation will be updated soon. This urban criminality is going to stop. May Hon Abiriga’s soul rest in peace,”
While the motive of the killers is yet to be established, Abiriga had talked multiple times about people trying to kill him.
News reaching our desk conforms that now the late Ibrahim Abiriga will be buried on Monday, June 11, 2018, the minister of internal affairs Gen Jeje Odongo has said.
The minister made the announcement when he visited the scene where Abiriga was gunned down in Kawanda.
According to the minister, Abiriga’s body will lay in state at parliament for a special session on Sunday June 10 before burial the next day at his ancestral home in Arua District.
Abiriga is a Muslim and according to Islamic values, the legislator ought to be buried tomorrow, however his burial coincides with the Heroes day celebrations set for Saturday in Kakumiro district.
According to sources close to President Museveni, he asked for a postponement of programs to bury Abiriga as he is already entertaining Ethiopian Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali who is already in the country and expected to be awarded a medal at the same event.
