With the Christmas season already within our midst, every businessman, trader, transport personnel, name it, is trying to maximize as much profit as possible which has led to the skyrocketing of process of goods around the country.
However the most affected appears to be the transport industry. Parks for both taxis and buses alike are buzzing with thousands of travellers heading to upcountry destinations.
This has led people in the transport industry to hike the fares so as to maximize profits. Our snoops have roamed around different parks around the city and it has been discovered that the fares have hiked as follows, as of Tuesday 18th December;
Kampala to Kisoro from 40,000 to 45,000.
Kampala to Mbarara transport fares range between 25,000 to 30,000,
Kampala to Kabale from 35,000 to 40,000,
Kampala to Kasese from 30,000 to 40,000,
And Masindi is now at 25,000 shillings
Kampala- Fort Portal from 30,000 to 35000,
Kampala to Bundibugyo from 30,000 to 40’000
Kampala to Rukungiri from 40,000 to 45000
Kampala to Mbale from 20,000 to 25000,
Kampala to Soroti from 25000 to 30,000.
Kampala to Gulu from 30,000 to 35000,
Kampala to Arua 45000 to 50,000.
There has also been an increase in the fares for Cross border buses.
Buses plying the Kampala to Nairobi route have increased from 65,000 to 71000, Kampala to Kigali from 50,000 to 55,000, Juba is now 100,000, Kampala to Burundi 65,000/- and , Kampala to Mombasa is now 111,000/=.
The above mentioned fares vary depending on time and number of passengers in the parks and are projected to skyrocket further as the festive season draws nearer.
